With the introduction of compulsory Home Information Packs (HIPs) a little over 12 months away, all sectors of the residential property industry are working hard to make the necessary changes required.
There are now over 4,000 prospective home inspectors in training to qualify as government licensed home inspectors. In their own right as a leading component supplier to the new industry, homeinspectors.co.uk have trained over 400 surveyors, architects and engineers with a further 350 new entrants now taking the necessary college courses to entitle them to become qualified home inspectors.
In commenting on the current industry preparations for Home Information Packs and the impact that misinformation is having, Chief Executive of homeinspectors.co.uk, Stephen Callaghan said:
“The home inspection profession is now gearing up to the massive changes ahead and as an organisation training and supplying business to aspiring home inspectors we are at the centre of this whirlwind of activity.
Despite irresponsible misinformation from some groups who are doing their utmost to try and cast doubt on the reforms, such as SPLINTA, whose activities are clearly intended to confuse some genuine candidates coming forward, we are entirely confident that we will assemble the 1000-1200 fully qualified home inspectors into our membership by the time HIPs are introduced next summer. This will represent around 15% of the total home inspector market. We speak to at least 100 consumers a week on our free events and the majority of those we talk to can easily see through the negative, cynical publicity from these “wreckers and spoilers” because it is obvious they have existing vested interests they seek to protect.
We join with the Council of Mortgage Lenders in welcoming the "timeline" for the introduction of HIPs recently issued by the government which will allow all parts of the industry to get prepared within a set timescale. We all know that the legislation is safely in place, but this is further proof of the government’s determination to see HIPs become a reality next year.
Whilst we all understand that "bad news stories" sell papers, I am convinced it is true that on issues such as HIPs, the public want to know both sides of the story so they can make up their own minds.”
