Home Information Pack (HIP) providers come forward with code of practice

September 2006

With the mandatory implementation date of the Home Information Pack (HIP) looming and the AHIPP (Association of Home Information Pack Providers) Dry-Run planned for later this year, a code of practice is now being put in place to provide maximum protection for the consumer.
While the Government plans to ensure all Home Inspectors producing the Home Condition Report (HCR) are fully regulated, AHIPP is putting in place a code of practice for the whole HIP to which all of its members will subscribe. Pack providers will be able to sign up to the voluntary code from late September this year.
Stephen Callaghan, Chief Executive of Home Inspectors.co.uk said: “ The quality and reliability of the HIP is absolutely critical to the success of the mandatory scheme. As a national supplier of the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and Home Condition Report (HCR) components of the packs we are also very much aware of the need for a quality service and will ensure our home inspectors go through a rigorous process of training, qualification and licensing. We are therefore delighted to see AHIPP taking the matter of consumer satisfaction very seriously with introduction of this Code of Practice for its members. We will soon be able to look out for the new AHIPP logo their members' packs which will be the mark of authentication under the code."

The AHIPP code will undergo the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) Consumer Codes Approval process and a consumer redress service will be provided through the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Each pack will be covered by Professional Indemnity Insurance backing.
