Government Reaffirms Commitment To HIPS

The Conservative party's motion in the House of Commons today (Wednesday 16th May), calling for HIPs regulation to be annulled, was defeated. Ministers have voted against annulling Home Information Pack regulations following a robust debate in the House of Commons.

The debate was brought to the House by a Conservative Party motion calling for HIP regulations to be annulled.

However, while 234 ministers voted for the motion to annul HIPs, the majority of 306 voted against it - a win for the government by 72 votes.

This means that the government's proposal to bring HIPs into force on June 1 will go ahead and plans to overturn it at the 11th hour have been foiled.

Stephen Callaghan, Director of Domestic Energy Assessor provider energy-assessors.com comments:

"Today's Commons vote has reaffirmed the Government's commitment to the introduction of HIPs on 1st June. This will give consumers, the industry and those training to provide Energy Performance Certificates full confidence to proceed towards implementation as legislated.

"Any further attempts to scupper the most important reform of the house-buying and selling process for decades will be unnecessary and only add to the continued scare mongering and subsequent confusion that has been rife during the last few weeks.

"energy-assessors.com has complete confidence that we will have sufficient numbers of Domestic Energy Assessors fully trained and accredited by 1st June.

Consumers should be in no doubt that anyone wishing to sell their property after this date will not experience any delays in the marketing and sale of their property."
