First ever Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) carried out by the-energy-portal

The UK's first official Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) has been carried out on a semi-detached house in Manchester by former midwife Jayne Seymour.

As part of a televised broadcast on GMTV at 6 am this morning, mother of four Jayne Seymour, a recently qualified and accredited Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) carried out her inspection of the large Victorian home owned by Dan Gilbart-Butler and his family. This signals the start of the crucial first phase of HIPs (Home Information Packs) which requires all homes with 4 or more bedrooms to be marketed using a HIP and a mandatory EPC.

Commenting on the news, Stephen Callaghan, Chief Executive of property-careers.com said:

The numbers of DEAs and Home Inspectors, according to figures just released by the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) now exceed the 2000 required to kick-start phase 2 for 3 bedroom homes. We have lobbied Yvette Cooper recently to lay the Commencement Order at the earliest opportunity.

The start of HIPs will now give consumers, the industry and those training to provide Energy Performance Certificates complete confidence to proceed towards full implementation as legislated.
