24 hours to full HIPs roll-out

There are now only 24 hours to go before any residential property being placed onto the market for sale throughout England and Wales will be required to have a HIP (home Information Pack). The new laws will mean that anything up to 2 million homes coming to the market each year will require an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate).

Commenting on the news, Chief Executive of property-careers.com, homeinspectors.co.uk and the-energy-portal.com, Stephen Callaghan said:

"From tomorrow, 14 December 2007, properties marketed for sale in England and Wales will require a Home Information Pack, which crucially includes a mandatory Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). This is a watershed for the whole industry and represents the culmination of over ten years determined work by the Government to introduce measures which are beneficial to consumers and the wider environment. As a member of the original Government Advisory Group, committed to improving the home buying and selling process, I am absolutely delighted that despite much negative publicity, we are about to see these measures being introduced.

I am due to meet with representatives of the CLG (Department for Communities and Local Government) later today as part of a regular programme of meetings intended to concentrate on the operation of HIPs in the marketplace and about strengthening the HIP to fully do the job it was originally designed to do. We will also be assisting in the training and roll-out of commercial EPCs and EPCs for residential lettings."
